Thursday 7 June

3pm-4.30pm Slingshot HipHop (Jackie Reem Salloum 2008)
Slingshot Hip Hop braids together the stories of young Palestinians living in Gaza, the West Bank and inside Israel as they discover Hip Hop and employ it as a tool to surmount divisions imposed by occupation and poverty.

4pm Introduction to Israeli Apartheid and BDS workshop
This introductory workshop will be run daily and is designed to give people some basic facts about Israeli apartheid and the Palestinian campaign for boycotts, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel.

4.30pm-6.30pm Teatro Di Nascosto — Hidden Theatre. Open workshop on Theatre Reportage.
Teatro di Nascosto, under the direction of Annet Henneman, has been making theatre reportage for fourteen years. Theatre reportage uses the stage as a medium of journalism, telling true stories of people and communities without a voice who are living through war and its aftermath, under oppression, poverty or in exile. The group have been invited to the Ashtar Youth Theatre Festival in Ramallah, Palestine in July to share 10 days of workshops, and will be hosting an open discussion about the use of theatre reportage as an agent for change and showcasing some of their work. More info

A thought-provoking and powerful documentary film on the current and historical root causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and U.S. political involvement.

Monday 11 June

3pm Making Maqamic Music – a practical introduction to classical Arabic music
We’ll make some simple Arabic music using our voice, body percussion and the ‘oud (the middle-eastern mother of the lute/guitar). We’ll explore how music is composed, what is considered ‘beautiful’ and learn some basic scales, rhythms and inflections and maybe even perform it at the end!? Disclaimer: Al is by no means an expert and welcomes people sharing their knowledge and experience!

3pm-5pm Fight for the life of Mahmoud Sarsak (Department for Culture Media and Sport, 2-4 Cockspur Street London SW1Y 5DH)
A second protest in solidarity with hunger-striking footballer Mahmoud Sarsak. On his 82nd day, he is protesting his internationally-illegal detention under the so-called “Unlawful Combatants Law”, without trial or charge. Mahmoud Sarsak is near his death-bed, so please go along to show your support if you can.

Activist Caoimhe Butterly narrates life in Jenin reugee camp circa 2002. A film strong on conveying the daily struggle of women under occupation and the evolution of the International Solidarity Movement in Palestine.

Wednesday 13 June

3pm-6pm Stencil T-shirt drop-in workshop

4pm Glyn Secker, Captain of the Jewish Boat to Gaza and member of Jews for Justice for Palestinians (JFJP) talks about socialist/humanist Jewish history which predated Zionism and how it was supplanted by Zionism. He will then locate us in today’s  environment – US Christian Zionism, the neo-liberal economics and the Arab Spring.

5pm Ethnic Cleansing in the UK: Dale Farm
2 activists who were present during the resistance to the huge operation to evict Irish Travellers from their land in Essex last October and now involved in the Traveller Solidarity Network will be talking about their experiences and the issue of evictions and ethnic cleansing closer to home.

6pm Health is a Political Issue – The impact of the Occupation, apartheid and blockade on health in Palestine
Jasr Kawkaby, Palestinian Paediatrician from Gaza who attempted to enter Gaza aboard The Dignity Free Gaza boat in January 2009 which was rammed three times and nearly sunk by Israeli warships. Jasr managed to enter through Egypt and worked at Al-Shifa Hospital treating children throughout Operation Cast Lead which saw 1400 people killed, including over 350 children and over 5000 people injured. Hear his story.

7pm Gaza Beneath the Bombs
Sharyn Lock, activist and Author (Gaza Beneath the Bombs) talks about her extensive experience of solidarity work in Palestine and Lebanon. Sharyn was also one of the initiators of The Free Gaza Movement which broke through Israel’s siege on Gaza, by sea, five times. She was a medical volunteer throughout Israel’s war on Gaza 2008-2009

8.30pm ‘In Ramallah, Running’ by author and critic Guy Mannes-Abbott
Book reading and talk about running in bubble boom-town Ramallah and walking out through the hills and valleys to, through, off and beyond Occupation limits. His texts attempt to recover the place from Occupied space and his book includes responses made to those texts by International artists and writers.

Building grassroots support support for the Palestinian boycott and the prisoners’ hunger strike and fighting media censorship of anti-zionism.

7pm P.E.D.A.L. – 100 Days to Palestine
PEDAL is a group of community organisers, artists, food growers and cyclists who travelled from London to Palestine by bicycle in 100 days in Spring 2011. The Group focused on resisting those who prevent access to land and community control of resources linking food growers across Europe to the Middle East, and by supporting the Palestinian call for BDS.

7pm-9pm- No Borders Monthly Meeting
The London No borders group will be holding their monthly meeting (usually held at the London Action Resource Centre) inside our very own Palestine Place. The only Western-made documentary on Operation Cast Lead 2008-2009 featuring evidence of Israel’s use of white phosphorous in civilian areas, shooting of medical personnel and targeting of children

5:30pm The architecture of the occupation with Nadia Barhoum
Nadia Barhoum, a Palestinian American Master’s student in Research Architecture at Goldsmiths College, will introduce and facilitate a discussion about the the architecture of occupation in Palestine. It will be a discussion about the built environment and Israel’s state planning policies in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

8pm-9.30pm Screening ‘Racism Report: Africans in Israel’ documentary followed by panel discussion: David Sheen, Samantha Asumadu and Carol Roper. The documentary demonstrates the racism faced by the African migrant community in apartheid Israel.

10pm Rebetiko Recycled
Rebetiko is the blues of Greece. It sings about love and loss, joys and hardships, oppression and defiance.  It bridges East and West, past and present.  Rebetiko Recycled will present some songs from the turbulent political history of the country.

Saturday 16 June

an independent, community-based non-profit organization mandated to defend and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees and IDPs.

1pm John Rose on the Myths of Zionism
John Rose provides a critical account of the historical, political and cultural roots of Zionism and shows how this powerful political force is based in mythology; ancient, medieval and modern. Many of these stories, as with other mythologies, have no basis in fact. However, because Zionism is a living political force, these myths have been used to justify very real and political ends — namely, the expulsion and continuing persecution of the Palestinians

2pm Visualizing Palestine – A Discussion on Harnessing Visual Media for Social Justice
Ahmad Barclay introduces the work of this new infographics and visual media project (visualizingpalestine.org), followed by an open discussion inviting ideas and debate on how to frame stories that can connect a wider audience with the reality of the Palestinian struggle.
